Korra for Energy & Investment Projects Wins Contract to Build Hybrid Solar Power Plant for Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum

Korra for Energy & Investment Projects has announced the signing of a new contract to build a 1.4 MW hybrid solar power plant for the Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum site
Cairo, July 27, 2025 — In a significant step that reinforces its position as a trusted partner in sustainable energy solutions, Korra for Energy & Investment Projects has announced the signing of a new contract to build a 1.4 MW hybrid solar power plant for the Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum site — one of Egypt’s prominent oil fields. With an investment value of $1 million, the project reflects Korra’s continued commitment to delivering innovative solutions that expand clean energy use and boost energy efficiency across various industries.
This ground-mounted solar facility will generate clean electricity on-site and feed it directly into the operations at Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum, covering a portion of its power load sustainably. The project marks a pivotal move by Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum to reduce its reliance on the national grid, cut operating costs, and strengthen its commitment to environmental sustainability standards.
What makes this project stand out is its unique integration with Korra’s existing Flare Gas Recovery (FGR) project, which generates 3.5 MW. Together, these systems form an advanced hybrid setup providing dual clean energy sources. This integration goes beyond environmental benefits, delivering high operational value by improving power reliability and enhancing power quality to meet world-class standards.
The hybrid system allows Eshpetco - Esh El Mallaha Petroleum to run the solar plant in parallel with generators powered by recovered flare gas. This offers exceptional flexibility in managing electrical loads across the entire site. Instead of being limited to supplying one fixed area, the power generated can be distributed throughout different site units using a smart switchgear system that efficiently synchronizes the solar power, recovered gas, and national grid supply. This multi-source approach gives the site unprecedented control over its energy mix.
The innovative hybrid model also optimizes energy management day and night, giving the client the ability to adjust and switch between sources based on real-time operational needs. This maximizes energy resource use and delivers unmatched operational agility.
This project is among the first of its kind in Egypt’s energy sector, combining the benefits of flare gas recovery with renewable energy generation under one umbrella. It demonstrates how energy efficiency and renewable energy can work hand in hand to offer reliable, stable, and sustainable power — a game-changer for industrial sites that demand uninterrupted operations.

Commenting on this milestone, Eng. Mohamed Medhat, Managing Director of the Sustainable Green Energy and Energy Systems Business Unit at Korra Energi, said:
"We’ve delivered a hybrid solution that creates real, tangible value for our client. By integrating the existing flare gas recovery project with the new solar plant, we are offering a first-of-its-kind solution for Egypt’s oil and gas sector. This setup not only raises power quality but also transforms how energy is managed on site."
Medhat added: "At Korra, we always strive to unlock added value for our clients, help them use energy more wisely, and support the country’s energy goals by reducing dependence on the national grid. We look forward to expanding these hybrid energy solutions into other high-energy industries such as fertilizers and cement."
With a proven track record of delivering landmark projects, Korra Energi remains at the forefront of providing integrated energy solutions that align with Egypt’s vision for expanding new and renewable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions.
Through this new project, Korra reaffirms its commitment to staying ahead of global trends in energy management, offering real value through innovative solutions that address clients’ technical, operational, and environmental needs. For Korra, sustainability is not a luxury — it is a strategic imperative for a cleaner, more efficient future.
